You’ve traveled a lot, tell us where?
I’ve been fortunate enough to explore a lot because of a previous job, touring with Blue Man Group - 45 states and 22 countries.
Has your art changed since you began traveling? How?
Oh most definitely! The outdoors influence me, a lot of what I draw is inspired by my travels through South America’s Patagonia as well as the otherworldly landscapes of Iceland.
Why black and white?
Honestly, I haven’t learned how to harness the ability to use color in my work. Also, I like the minimalistic use of ink and negative space. For me, it allows more depth, contrast, a clearer and cleaner piece.
What’s the best thing that you’ve seen come from you art?
The best thing that I’ve seen come from my art is, hands down, that people want to tattoo my work on themselves. It’s real amazing to have that connection with people, as well as the trust that I’ll design what they are looking for. #PrettyCoolIfYouThinkAboutIt
What Bee Paper products do you use most and why?
My primary sketchbook is the 6x9 Super Deluxe Mixed Media. I like how portable it is and the durability of the pages, 93lb sheets! It’s very gratifying to draw on. I also have the 8.5x11 Mixed Media pad, for when I want to up the ante a bit.
What are you working on these days?
I am in residency in Reykjavik, Iceland from December through January. Here I’ll be focusing a lot on music but will be refining my style, line work, stippling, and developing a series based on the surrounding Icelandic landscapes and lifestyle.
What advice do you have for an artist who wants to create while they travel?
I’d say take pictures of everything, always have a sketchbook, journal everyday, talk to everyone, and say yes to experiences that will allow you to grow as both a person and artist. Get weird. Traveling makes you an interesting and inspiring person, use those tools to create what you want to create and don’t stop or apologize for your art; who cares if no one likes it, create for yourself.
